Quiet Wellness Checks and Daily Support Outcome

This is the story of Faye, a lovely 84 year old woman who was in the military, a teacher, and retired. She reached out and inquired about the daily Wellness check.

Faye is a sharp minded, witty individual, and every chance I get to speak with her, I feel hope because of her outlook on life. She's very organized and has a realistic outlook on aging in place. She recently sold her larger home and moved into an apartment, and that was a big deal for her as she shared that it was not easy at her age and she just wanted and realized that she needed a smaller space to care for.

We like to call and sing Happy Birthday, as I do with many recipients. We often have clients who don't want that special attention here at Daily Peace of Mind Communications, known as Personal Care Calling Services. Faye laughs every time.

There are some elderly or disabled individuals who only want a service; they don't want to be friendly, they don't want to know that we actually care about them; they just want the service for what it provides. And Faye is one of the people who smartly but candidly said, if I pass away in my sleep or while watching television, I want someone to know as soon as possible, so if I don't respond to a call, you get notified and it was a very realistic approach to her aging in place. I respected that.

We set her up on daily automated calls she asked me to record the message personally and not a volunteer and to be transparent letting our readers know that we don't type in text and use a robotic sounding voice and anyone that gets acquainted with the organization services through speaking with us, I record their calls if they speak me or with the volunteer they record the calls if that's what they request.

As mentioned in previous articles, we're still hoping to complete our state-of-the-art automated community software, but there's always a funding issue. However, it is not on the back burner; it is slowly keeping warm while we find a resolution. We're 50% there. And this is one of the things that Faye and I would talk about once in a while, the successes and the next steps in what we're up to over here at PCCS.

It's my honor to help someone who served in the military. Faye kindly donates $25.00 a month. And we are mighty grateful for every penny. This is a short story because it's still ongoing, and there have been no unforeseen issues, no emergencies, only successful calls being responded to, alerting us that Faye is upright, breathing, and well. And those are the best kinds of outcomes, of course.

I will share that Faye informed this organization that she was leaving a small but, to us, considerable donation in her estate for our use, as needed, to continue supporting the mission and those we serve. We were quite moved by this revelation and shared that we are grateful to be thought of in such a personal way. We had no words to share how grateful we truly are. A gift after Faye is gone will be bittersweet.
