A Lesson from the Chorus

I recently read a piece on Medium that used the tight knit world of a cappella groups to highlight a growing problem in our society. The author wrote about how singing a cappella requires profound nonverbal synchrony. You must listen, breathe together, and connect. She contrasted this beautiful collaboration with our post pandemic reality, where people walk around with their earbuds in, eyes down, avoiding noise and each other.

Her analogy was clever, and it hit remarkably close to home for me.

I spent eight years growing up in multiple choruses, including Concert Chorus, Pops, and Girls' Assemble. We were tight. We had an outstanding educator, Mr. Clarke, who taught us the vital lessons of how to properly use our voices for song, breath, and control. Through his guidance, we became an award winning choral department. I had the privilege of winning Honor Choir for three years and even assisted in teaching voice to University of Miami students while still in high school.

Finding Harmony in an Isolated World A Lesson from the Chorus
Harmony is found everywhere, in our music, conversations, emotions; we must work to bring a harmonious balance to those in need.

Those years taught me far more than music. They taught me about teamwork, conflict resolution, and the intricacies of interpersonal relationships. You had to learn how to tune in to the people around you to make the system work.

I am rather reclusive myself for many personal and social reasons. Yet, those early lessons in creating harmony have become the foundation of my life’s work.

Today, I am the Founder and CEO of a 12 year old nonprofit organization, Daily Peace Of Mind. I am also developing a software company to power our proprietary Reassurance Daily Communications. We reach out to seniors, veterans, and disabled adults across the United States.

To sustain this mission in a post pandemic world where traditional funding has vanished, we built a tri-circular ecosystem of care. PCCS proudly sponsors a charitable crypto initiative, Quality Of Life Token - Q.O.L.T. project, which was created to help fund our programs. I have personally supported this ecosystem and exhausted my life savings to do so. That doesn’t matter to me, because this is my calling.

We communicate daily with recipients who are unseen, alone, and terrified of isolation. They have no real support system. Because every person matters, we are using Web3 and modern communications tech to meet them exactly where they are. We are refusing to put our earbuds in and look away.

PCCS has experienced some incredible wins lately. Hearing the wonderfully unreal stories of our recipients goes to show that Care Through Daily Communications and random acts of tangible service absolutely change lives. In many cases, they

save them.

We are completely humbled by that revelation. It takes a village, or perhaps a chorus, to ensure no one is left singing alone.
